what brand alt for ho at idle?

The reason HO ALTs have a lower output at RPM is due to the stator/rotor assembly and how they are wound. It is similar to a High Current Amplifier, you lose 4 ohm power output to gain higher power output. Same for the HO Alt, you have to comprimise low rpm output in order to achieve higher amperage.

To correct this, you can put a smaller pulley on the ALT, but that may also require a shorter belt depending on your car.

I don't know much about other brands, but I have a HO alternator built by Dominick Iraggi. It's capable of 120 amps at idle (700-800 rpms) and 180 amps at driving speeds. The pulley size makes a huge difference. My alt came with a custom pulley, but it was too wide (had 5 grooves) and wouldn't fit in my car. I temporarily used the stock pulley, and the alternator did not perform well at idle. I mean, sometimes my idle would drop to near 0, and the battery lights would come on! Dominick made a new pulley, which was the same as the original one he made except that it had 3 grooves instead of 5. After installing this one, the alt has kicked arse.

Iraggi's are nice alts and it has helped me so much, you can ask him to make and alt that can to high output at idle but the price will also be more... i have one that does about 150-170 at idle...220 max...good luck..
