That is true to somewhat of an extent. But another thing that makes more of a difference is the actual properties of the coil itself like how many layers, 2,4,8? What kind of material? Copper or aluminum? Flatwound or round wire? Cooling systems integrated into the motor? Those make more of a difference than anything else. The actual STRENGTH of the 4" coil is usually greater than a 3", but there's a bunch of different stuff you can do to help the coil to sustain those power levels for long periods of time. A burp-SPL motor and coil is far different than that of a daily ground-pounder."USUALLY" Voice coil size is related to power handling. The bigger the coil the higher the power rating. And sometimes the higher the inductance.
