what about this

i need a change of pace with my hu and want to try something other than pioneer for once. what does everyone think about the alpine 9856 model?
Mmm. the Glidetouch..

I have one in my Sebring, and it is the shit. 9856 WINS in every category.

Touchglide is different but fun, and 4v pre-outs....unique unit, and I love mine.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Maybe the 56 is diff, i didnt think it was. I've got the 55.

I've honestly been through so many Alpines I don't keep up with the #'s anymore, lol.

It's different. I got 55 and 56 mixed up. But I've had the 9887, 9885, 9883, 9879, 9856, 9855, 7809, 9886, cda 105, too many to list.

56 isn't a touchglide, my bad.

Touchglide is bad *** though.

Out of all the Alpines I've owned the touchglide is definitely my favorite.

9856 is a good unit. Anything Alpine, that I've ever dealt with has been a **** good unit. Never had 1 problem outta them.

holy ****!!! you have had just a few huh? well, i want the 55 for myself, watching the bidding on ebay for one. the 56 i think would be perfect for my wifes car as long as the ipod controls are on the hu. do you know if they are?

I've never had an iPod but don't all Alpines have the iPod wire you buy for like $15 to run to ur iPod? Always on the back on the radio.

55 is the best Alpine I've ever owned, hands down. Touchglide ftw.

the 9856 is not able to run active. at least not without an external sound processor. the 9855 can do it. if it's got a built in crossover with a 3 way setting, you can run an active front stage. the ipod controls would be completely on the head unit itself. i know with the kca 420i (the ipod unit to connect an ipod to a 2004 or 2005 alpine unit) you cannot use the ipod controls. i would assume it's the same way with the full speed ipod control they introduced in 2006. also, none of the units as far as i know will charge a new ipod nano, 2nd gen touch, or the 3g iphone. you can still use these on the units and get full control over them, but you cannot charge them. all the others will charge. there are some adapters that will work with any alpine that can control an ai-net cd changer to hook an ipod up through that. it's a dock connector and it will let you use the controls on the ipod instead of the head unit. i've got one ordered from woofersect but i don't have it yet. i'm not sure if you can use the controls on the head unit or what types of ipods it will charge. there's also an aux input that hooks into the ai-net as well. it will come out of the ipods phono out. i've got this in my truck on a 9853 and it works well. there's some static introduced, but i don't have anything near a system in there anyways. also, this will obviously not charge or let you take any control of any ipod with the head unit.

and sorry, i had to do this, it's GlideTouch. no space, the "g" and "t" are capitalized. straight from alpine.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

thanks for the info schultz. i want the ipod controls on the hu so that is a plus. i might want to try and run active in the future so the 9855 will do just fine it sounds like. any idea where to get the ipod cable and how much it is?

crutchfield still has it. it's a kca-420i. if you search on crutchfield, 500kca420i will take you directly to it. there's also some other places too if you do a google shopping search. you can also get a used one for around 75. new they should go for 100. some places are over priced at about 120. crutchfield is 100. the only downside is it's kinda slow and will take some getting used to. i've got one on my 9855. i like it, but like i said before, i ordered the ai-net cd changer adapter for it so i can just control it from the ipod. i'm not sure if i'm going to be using it in my truck or in my car yet. if i put it in my car, i'll pm you and see if you want to buy it from me. if you want to look at other adapters go to woofersect, alpine, then misc. you'll find it all there.
