Virus, how do I get rid of this dan thing, fake windows defender virus

Aparently my computer got a virus, 2 days ago it went crazy and this windows defender program came outta knowwhere and kept popping up aparently being a windows genuine antivirus software, but it was a virus and a scam to get ur credit cards.

So now Ive got this **** program and it always seems to be running no matter what, I cant get rid of it. Its not in the control panel add/remove programs list. It pops up with every move I make and says sites are restricted and svrewed up my googles search etc.

How do I get rid of this stupid program!??!?!

This is on xp if it matters.

My desktop support class was talking about this virus. It's a ***** to get rid of and I'm not 100% sure how. sorry wish I could of helped

There are online tutorials that'll walk you through removing windows defender. I've done it before. It's not that bad...

i dont think hes trying to remove actual windows defender. its a virus that looks like windows defender, assuming im reading this correctly.

Download a free trial of Kaspersky Antivirus and update it. Do a full scan. If that doesnt catch it download Malware Bytes Antimalware and update as well. Do a full scan with that. If neither removes it your SOL. Both are the top 2 programs in their respected fields.

My bad. I was referring to WinPC Defender. Sorry about that...

EDIT: Just read the opening post again. I believe the OP does indeed have the WinPC Defender virus. It's fake antivirus software that embeds a sh*t ton of malware on your computer, and you can't remove the winpc defender program because it doesn't show up on the control panel.

OP, I think my initial post was on the money. There are online tutorials that'll walk you through the winpc defender removal process. Just do a google search to find one. The process takes a little while, but it's not all that complicated...
