Verizon Opens Network

So they can have a couple more phones on their network. No big deal....if they were GSM or UMTS, it would be a different story....almost all the cutting edge phones are GSM or UMTS nowadays.

so? It is a step in the right direction. Verizon is one of the biggest companies in the US and hopefully the others will follow in there footsteps.

Theres nothing wrong with thinking optimistically. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

gay as all could be.

all of their competitors phones are not compatible with their network, so what would they have to worry about?

not to mention, that phones are cheap as hell with a contract, and expensive as hell without one, so why would anyone sign up and not take advantage of a phone.

it sounds like they are trying to diss the image they have gotten themselves into. that image being that they completely disable their phones so that you cant do anything without paying them for it.

its something that sounds good, but its really nothing to get excited about. couple that with the fact that all of the phones verizon has to offer are awful pieces of turd, and their horrid customer service... if anyone gets excited over this news, they are in for a big let down.

the Voyager looks pretty cool.

And My friend has an EnV which isn't that bad either.

This may make phone makers look into making CDMA phones because they would work with verizon since their open now.

no, its a step in trying to fool people into thinking that its something great, but its not that amazing.

Verizon is one of the biggest companies in the US and hopefully the others will follow in there footsteps.
i do believe that verizon has been on the decline for quite some time now... and as for other companies following in their footsteps, most any phone can be unlocked for use on multiple networks, EXCEPT VERIZON PHONES. so verizon is still waaaaaaaaaay behind t-mobile, sprint, at&t, etc etc.

nothing wrong with it, and that is exactly the reaction vzw had with this move //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif . give them hope, but dont let them know its still only a short distance until they hit the wall.

Why would they look into making CDMA phones when the international standard is GSM or UMTS? That is ultimately what is making this pointless.

Sprint uses CDMA.

voyager looks interesting, not as much as the prada concept they had which was supposed to smash the iphone //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif . as interesting as it is though, i absolutly despise touchscreen phones. they ****, flat out, and anyone with the lg chocolate will tell you that. i have the chocolate, and hate it. i should have kept my 9800, which was the predecessor to the env. i liked that phone, but i went through 5 of them in 4 months... quality was very sub par, which was completely unlike my previous lg phone, which was a very basic phone...

as for other manufacturers, yes, they may look into it. but if you cant get them through verizon on sale with a contract, whats the point?

the point is you can get them.

I'm not saying this is a huge monumental extravagant mega event that will define cell phones for all time.

I'm just saying that its a good thing that a major US Cellular company is opening their doors to other phones.

and I might also add that they could've made the iphone CDMA only as well...

I'm just simply saying its a step in the right direction.

Which is weird since the CDMA network is more advanced and has better coverage and higher bandwidth.
