I know these topics pop up every once in a while, but I don't wanna revive a dead one.
Went to work today, we hired a new guy who is pretty savvy with electronics. He showed us his blazer after he mentioned he had a system in it and so he proceeds to give us a demo. It was impressively loud, about as loud to the ear as my 2 HDC3 12's that I had powered by 2 AQ2200D's which when I metered them did a 147 (though I had only slightly better than stock electrical so I wasn't giving them near full power). Expecting him to have a pretty bad-*** set-up, he opens up his hatch to reveal 2 Orion 12's that looked at least a few years old judging by the logo design and how worn they looked. Even more, he was powering them off of a puny, 300 watt amp and according to him, each speaker was only rated for a few hundred watts. I couldn't believe it. He purchased the whole set up for just a few hundred bucks and told us 'you just gotta do it right'.
You guys think it's just one of those cases of a really good box in the right vehicle (but from the looks of it all, I don't think he really planned the set-up himself, he said he bought the box for 75 bucks off of someone) with some decent entry level subs? The biggest thing that astounded me was the power, only 300 watts and the amp was downright small too, so no lying on the wattage. He was definitely louder then my 2 DD 8's off a 2200D (but again, less then sufficient electrical so not full power to them). Man does it get me burning //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif
