I know these topics pop up every once in a while, but I don't wanna revive a dead one.

Went to work today, we hired a new guy who is pretty savvy with electronics. He showed us his blazer after he mentioned he had a system in it and so he proceeds to give us a demo. It was impressively loud, about as loud to the ear as my 2 HDC3 12's that I had powered by 2 AQ2200D's which when I metered them did a 147 (though I had only slightly better than stock electrical so I wasn't giving them near full power). Expecting him to have a pretty bad-*** set-up, he opens up his hatch to reveal 2 Orion 12's that looked at least a few years old judging by the logo design and how worn they looked. Even more, he was powering them off of a puny, 300 watt amp and according to him, each speaker was only rated for a few hundred watts. I couldn't believe it. He purchased the whole set up for just a few hundred bucks and told us 'you just gotta do it right'.

You guys think it's just one of those cases of a really good box in the right vehicle (but from the looks of it all, I don't think he really planned the set-up himself, he said he bought the box for 75 bucks off of someone) with some decent entry level subs? The biggest thing that astounded me was the power, only 300 watts and the amp was downright small too, so no lying on the wattage. He was definitely louder then my 2 DD 8's off a 2200D (but again, less then sufficient electrical so not full power to them). Man does it get me burning //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

Super efficient subs with soft suspension ftmfw. Why would i move a sub with 3kw when i can move it just as much with 500w with a softer suspension? Unless i want a super stiff suspension and badass coil just to say itll take 3kw?

He > You - Although yours probably sounds alot better. I personally shit on 2 15" L7s on a 2500.1 (in an SUV) with 2 pyramid 15s on 1kw (in a trunk car). You just gotta do it right, like he says.

maybe, he understood good box design, high efficiency, low wattage, clean power, staging, and happen to find those perfect combos in a good package, from an old school guy and got his equip,

UNLIKELY, but still not impossible...

I have an older Planet Audio 12, that on about 800 watts is murder lol. Its almost as loud up high as my RE xxx 15 was.... and that was hitting pretty loud.... I'd love to build an spl box and just rip on that freq and figure out what this sub will do # wise with my current setup.... I assume about a 42.... but idk... maybe a little more but nothing close to 46's lol

prolly just efficent subs and happened that the box is tuned at whatever sounds best in his car by chance...i mean we all have seen something sound great in one car then put in another and its not nearly as loud...plus i have to agree...sometimes theres not much point in a sub that can take 2k daily but needs 1500 to get decently loud when a diofferent sub can take 800 to get just as loud and only needs 500 to get decent...got to pick what you want....like those older ppi subs...took good power but you need like 1500 just to get the going...
