Use bass boost on amp or not

For the original amp configuation:

Head Unit Settings:

EQ flat

Sub control at 2/3

Bass off

Loudness off

Amplifier Settings:

LPF at 80Hz rolling off at 24DB/o

Bass Boost On (12db at 50Hz)

I set the output voltage using a DMM to 28.3 (sqrt(400x2)) with the head unit at the max volume I turn it to (about 2/3rds up - no audible distortion) using a 50Hz test disc at 0db. I've noticed that my sub plays a few magical notes, not surprisingly around 50Hz, and very low and very high notes not nearly as loud. Would turning bass boost off and resetting the gain give me a better response across all frequencies?

Thanks, I just turned off the bass boost and redid the gain setting with my test disc and after hooking the sub back up the 50Hz test disc sounds alot cleaner at high volume and the other frequencies are much more defined now as well.

Now I'm curious if I should invest in a new amp with a subsonic filter to block frequencies below port tuning of 25Hz. I'm pushing 400 daily to the speaker and listen to mostly rap. Should I be concerned? The speaker has a thermal RMS rating of 600W so I'm not sure if 400W at or below 25Hz would damage it or not.

I wouldn't worry about a subsonic filter with an Fb of 25Hz, especially since you're underpowering the woofer.

Thanks man, I'll go ahead and turn the gain all the way up too and set my lp filter to 200hz. Feel free to ignore the questions you don't understand, not everyone can be a l337 as you.

I did search, but sometimes it's easier to ask than search and read through twenty different threads and still not find exactly what you're looking for. It's also easier to click the back button instead of wasting everyone's time leaving a worthless reply like cracka did above.
