Traffic Court

Fancy a fondle, eh?
I got a ticket yesterday and plan to go to court over it and I was wondering how the process goes down. Don't you show up on the court date and plead Guilty or Not guilty, and then if you plead not guilty the judge will make another court date for you to come back on so you can argue your case?

Hah... that happened to a buddy of mine. He turned left onto the main street in town and cut off a cop so they tried to give him a failure to yield ticket. What they neglected to mention was that it was 2 AM and the cop was travelling on an unlit section of the street with no lights on.

Where I live, if you plan on fighting the ticket you plead not guilty and prove your case that day. The only time you make another courtdate(for anything) is at an arraignment or when you ask for a continuance. Traffic court isn't exactly complicated.

I'm a traffic court virgin:D Thanks for the info though

Write a check (cheque) for more than the ticket amount, and never cash the refund you receive //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

My boss has done this, and it works. case stays open, nothing on your record, but that you paid.

he's right on this one. I have seen so many people do this nowadays that it wont be on your record.

For example..

You get a ticket for 65 bucks. Then you pay for the ticket 10 or 15 dollars more than they will send you a refund check in the mail. Do not cash the refund check and boom your records will still be clean.

when I got one for running a red light...(which was totally false) and I contested, all that happens is the judge calls the defendants up one by one asking how they plead & you sit back down.

then he calls up people where either the police officer didn't show or doesn't recall the event & gives them their license back....

...can't tell you what happens after that... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

in cali its different, you go up, plead guilty, not guilty, or no contest. if you plead guilty or no contest the judge will decide how much the fine will be, and your done. but if you plead not guilty you have to make an appt to come back to court and the officer who cited you will have to show up and defend his side of the story, but 80% of the time ive plead not guilty and had to come back, the cop didnt show i got all charges dropped
