I use the same program. Are you using a router? I was and it slowed mine down a ton. One way to tell if you need to change some setting is to check out the color of the symbol beside your download. If its yellow, you do need to change some settings. I don't remember the exact ones, I just googled it and there were a couple sites that had directions.

utorrent is what i use. you might also want to make sure you forward your ports.
