To Download or Not... MS Office

Im thinking about actually buyin Office because my new pc has all legit software - unlike my old one which is useless now - but I kinda dont want to dish out the 100 bucks on that shit. Does anyone know if its possible for MS to mess something up in your pc if they find its unlegit or anything?
