Time Alignment vs. Good Equalization

Ok...

Here is the skinny. I went to my installer to find out what is going on with my car. He has finished making the tweeter pods on the door sills and then lets me listen to it. IT SOUNDED LIKE AZZ!!! Then he uses the time-alignment feature from the cd8445 and now the soundstage is perfect for the driver, but still sounds like azz for the passenger.

My question to you guys is: Is it possible to use equalization to tie in the passenger so they can benefit from the good staging or am I doomed to live with one but not the other?

I have an Orion DEQ30 for equalization.

thanks in advance

Joe

You are doomed.

That is the problem with TA....it only works for one seat, and worsen's the sound from the other.

This is why it's always best to set your components up from the start to sound good from both seats....so that you don't need to use TA in this manor.

so howdya do dat? good in both seats?? now thats impossible??if you adjust balance/ eq or time alighn for 1 seat the other has gotta suffer?

You have to decide this : Do you want fairly good sound at best for both front seat occupants , or do you want awesome sound for yourself ? Who is the system really for anyway .... who's car is it ?

I've heard the IASCA systems where both seats are supposed to sound equally good , and the overall sound from either seat is just not up to my standards.

Here's what I personally do .... I save one memory setting for my driver seat perfection , and one memory pre set for the passenger seat.

That way , if I want to impress the passenger , I just choose the pre set for that seat while they are in the car .... but if I'm not specifically trying to placate the passenger , he gets to listen AZZ as you put it , after all it's MY system //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

or does setting comps in kicks at the right angles actually achive this?
for me kicks were NOT an option. The footwells are too narrow to get good imaging from them, not to mention the huge centerconsole that lincoln decided to give me.

I am taking off work to head out there and discuss this with the installer and install manager.

Car audio has survived with good imaging long BEFORE time alignment, so if it could be done well a decade ago, it should still be possible now. wish me luck

Proper speaker placement and aiming.

If you TA, yes, the opposite seat will sound just as bad/worse.
Squeek do you think aiming at opposite head rests is a good place to start with the aiming? I've got my baffles sitting on my floor. been trying to get the best imaging out of them.
