It's fine, although you don't really need to spend that much on a DVD burner, you can get good ones for less than $60 (Lite-On, NEC, and ASUS are good brands.) But if you still want that one, you can get it for less from other sites.

personally, this late in the game, I would wait till december to get one. They will be DIRT cheap as new technologies will be getting big (hd-dvd, bluelayer, etc). u talkin about blu ray? the new ps2 games are gonna have that. i think it holds like 25 gigs on one disc or somethinglike that

but for a burner, i got a cheap NEC one on newegg for like 50 bucks

Upon further research, some of the Plextor drives do support bitsetting changes, but ONLY after a firmware upgrade ...
That drive, in particular (first post) does support bitsetting ...

new egg and tiger direct has some cheap dvd burners...or you can get a HP burner with lightscribe

I guess I'm too late, but for future refrence to anyone who might run a search....

Oh I did all that. I had it for almost 2 years so I tried EVERYTHING. Firmware, new cables, master/slave, primary/secondary IDE, etc.

It was just really stubborn. It even locked up so I had to reboot to eject the half-burned disks.
