Thinking about downsizing

I currently have a Polk Audio SR124 12" subwoofer. I'm not into loud bass, just accurate(SQ). The SR124 does a great job with this, but it is quite heavy and the sealed box takes up a lot of trunk space. I'm thinking of downsizing to a pair of 8" subs. What would be some good places to start? I want to downsize without sacrificing too much SQ.

image dynamics id8's seem to have good reviews. sound splinter rli 8's , tc1000 8's and whatever the audio pulse equivalent is sound great and can get loud if need be.

Truebass 8's sound really good. There is only a few places to get them tho.

budget, up to 1k. I have a zapco dc refernce 1000.1 for power...850rms @ 4ohms.

btw thanks for the previous responses. I'm researching them now. I am tempted by the Focal Utopia 8". Its a bit pricey, so I'd like to see what other options are before deciding.

Focal is nice, the SoundSplinter's are nice too. I'd say choose any 8'' that's been suggested, I've seen nothing but good reviews on them also.

The sound splinter 8" sounds promising. At that price it would be good even just to try out. Unfortunately it seems they are out of stock.

If weight and space is an issue, you might want to look into going IB (free-air / trunk baffle) if your car allows, assuming you have a trunk car.

I think I'm going to go with a single 10" for simplicity. I originally planned on putting 2 8's in(one in front of each tail light. However, I think this might cause tuning problems since the drivers will be so far apart. Plus I was going to go with the Soundplinter RL-i 8's which are delayed at the moment. The RL-i 10's are in stock. Any other suggestions for a SQ 10" sub?

why not try a DD 1508 sealed...an Iasca SQ guy about a year ago was looking for a good sound quality 8 and tested several subs....the DD 8 won over all...you can probally do a search and find info...he bought the 8 from me a 1008a now the DD's have been improved and are offered as a 1508 I know he did RE8's also and several others...he was from a Nissan forum...but did the great 8 challenge on here and the sound pressure forum....

Considered the Dayton Reference 8"? Much lighter than any of the subs mentioned other than the ID 8. Shouldn't want a lot of power either and gets quite low in a smallish sealed box.
