Thinkin bout gettin a street bike...

A buddy let me ride his the other day and I am determined to get one now my only concerns are im a small guy about 5'7 and 125 lbs. I was wondering if anyone knew certain models that were lighter than others and I only want a 600, im trying to stay below or right around 3 g's. Also any idea how much insurance is gonna be for a 16 yr old? Any replys appreciated and thanks!

No I need to get a 600 I will get dogged if I get a chicks bike, I'm mature for my age I know what the bikes are capable of and respect their power I just think i'll need to lower it to have a little better control.
You will get dogged when you lay your bike down too:blackeye: Seriously, start off smaller and work your way up. Nothing wrong with starting out with a Ninja and getting the basics down

It sounds like you are mature and have at least a slight idea of what you're getting yourself into. (potentially)

Definitely check the local law, every place I know of requires 18 and up.

Assuming it's even legal, and your parents decide to let you, start small! You're worried about getting dogged cause you will only be able to pull crazy fast performance instead of insane over-the-top performance? :\ This would be one of those places to consult your maturity on. A smaller bike will also weigh less, be easier to control and less likely to toss you off at the slightest touch of the controls.

Several of my buddys have 600's and 750's and they are 16, here in NC im pretty sure you only have to have your full licenses. I do need to start smaller but I have experience on a dirt bike but ppl say its different and it is. When I rode his I took it slow until I got used to it but I dont want one to race ppl with but im sure I will wanna go fast occasionally knowing I have the speed but I mainly want one to ride wit my buddys on nice evenins after school. Im tryin to wait till after christmas to hopefully find a better deal.

Do you have the maturity to pass up a stop light race when the girls are watching? I've ridden bikes for the past 25 years and most people are injured by stupid decisions. If your worried about what others think ("I'll get dogged for having a girls bike") then I think you need to re-evalutate your decision to get on 2 wheels.

I should be able to pass up the girls watching when my girlfriends on the back if her parents allow her to ride with me lol and that would be the first mistake is gettin her hurt on the thing, they would have my ***.
I ride different when I'm solo then when my wife is on the back. I've been down 3 times on asphault and felt bad enough...if I made a mistake that caused a passenger to get hurt I can imagine how terrible I would feel.

I'm not trying to bag on you but I see more and more people get bikes because of "image" and it usually ends badly. If you do decide to get a bike please do yourself a huge favor and take a motorcycle saftey foundation course. 85% of motorcycle accidents involve riders with no formal training. I've taken all three courses (basic rider, advanced rider, race riding) and it's probably the only reason I'm walking today and that my wrecks weren't worse than they were. I don't care how long someone has been riding, they will learn something and will be a better rider because of it. Besides, taking the basic course will pay for itself in a hurry...it typically drops your insurance rates by 20%.
