THE Thread

Part of that, yeah...
But what people fail to realize is that you can rack up a lot of posts simply by helping people //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Especially when 90% of the questions are the same //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Or if you're Frosty the Tube-n00b.

i was running one jensen ten with an Alpine 80 watt 2 channel amp. Then i got 2 Type S's and a Jensen 500 watt. Then i got an Alpine Mrd-m500 it got stole along with my Alpine CDE-7856, then i got a panasonic 601u and a Memphis Pr-600 then i got one 04 Type R. Then i got the Alpine CDA-9855. And here i am now.

Jadis gear isn't that great...

They tend to use cheap transformers, which is the most important part in determining the overall SQ of the finished product, next to the topology and tubes used //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

For $800!

$800!

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

That's a good deal.

Why didn't I see that listing earlier //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

My 2A3 amp has about half that wattage //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Although the 300b's are more expensive to re-tube. New 2A3's go for around $60 a matched pair, while 300b's start out around $100 per pair. And you're looking at replacement of the power tubes every two to three years with normal usage. The signal tubes last about two years, but they're cheaper.

A problem with those particular amps is the solid-state rectified power supply...diodes = hash noise. Tube rectified would be better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Holy hell.

But no companies are producing tape material now, are they? I remember reading something about the last US manufacturer of audio tape closing its doors...so all new stuff if it's around is going to be imported and tough to find.

I'd stick to vinyl, anyway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
