What was I implying? Are you talking about the haircut thing? Your telling that one guy to get a haircut wasn't phrased as a suggestion or constructive criticism....you simply told him he needed a haircut. I immediately had flashbacks to arguments/screaming matches with my mother back when I wore my hair pretty long (in a ponytail it hung to just below my shoulder blades)It's just hair. Possibly that guy is in a place in his life where the ability to be "presentable" is of no great import.
You just sounded very parental and it struck me wrong.
