I hear ya...it depends alot on the car.

I have a 96 Maxima, and I mounted them as far back as they could go...doesnt affect my driving.

As far as a parametric eq...all I have is an EQL on them and they sound great. The horns needed to be tamed a bit out the box....they get very loud and peak at certain frequencies. I have the gains on my amp almost all the way down.
