the "real" size box

and i just called RE just a sec ago and he says that the size of the box listed on RE site is right...

the box i currently have is just a lil bit too small for the sub and he said 6 cubes for that sub would be bullsh!t cause its WAY to big

but thats just what he said... i got pics of a box design he gave me ill post it if nesessary

He lied. Or he doesn't know the truth. Someone posted a link in another one of these XXX threads a week or two ago that showed the car audio mag review on the sub. In the review written by the magazine, it clearly stated they called RE and was given a box recommendation that was substantially larger than their published recommendation. 6 cubes sealed for a 12 iirc. If you are curious, do a search on this forum and you'll find the thread with the link. Then call that guy back and ask him why he is recommending one sized box for you, while RE recommended a much larger box for an audio mag review.

Found the link. I was definitely wrong on 6 cubes sealed. lol But the link does confirm RE's specs are wrong too.

"RE's manual offered two enclosure recommendations: a compact size of 0.85ft3 and an optimum size of 1.1ft3. Because of the sheer bulk of this subwoofer, I was surprised by just how small these two recommended enclosures were. As is my custom, I gave the manufacturer a call to get their absolute best enclosure recommendation for sound quality. When Larry Ratcliff of RE Audio gave me the specs, I was taken aback, shocked even, when the answer came back almost three times larger then the recommended size at 2.843ft3! That's one big box, but it is more in line with what I would expect." - caraudio magazine.

That was the sealed box size btw. So the ported box would still be much larger. Probably in the neighborhood of 5-6 cubes before speaker and port displacement.

i talk to greg or usampsfreak

but idk i guess i just have to build boxes to see what fits me best -_- idk though

the box i currently have is ok... but it doesnt do teh lows and its only one sub so i cant expect much from it but its lacking what i want so i guess ill just make another just a lil bigger for the HZ i want it to be and then make another thats just massivly large just to see what it sounds and performs like

lol my 2 15s are in a 5cube box. not sure what larry was smoking that day. who did u talk to at re btw?
Apparently Larry was smoking truth serum. Notice the caraudio mag's review, in that triple sized box, was very favorable, while many people here who have used the 1/3 sized box account that the sub is lacking in the lowest octaves, and the coil burns up long before coming close to full excursion. Sounds like the 'triple sized box' is the correct one to me. *shrug*
