They made that known before the year was even over. I liked Jurrjens but it's not like the deal sets the franchise back. Dombrowski has always been in love with Jack Wilson for some reason. There has also been a lot of chatter about trading Magglio. Santiago is a good defender but not an everyday bat. I'm curious to see what the Tigers do since they need a catcher, SS, and pitching. I think Dombrowski is going to do his more crafty deals like the Guillen and Polanco trades.

I am a bit puzzled why they rehired Jeff Jones as the bullpen coach.

He had a team option for this year and they declined it. He's not worth 11 million. Boston was still on the hook for his buyout. With his salary, Pudge's, and Rogers coming off the books, that's over 30 million. Sheffield will be coming off next year, and if they trade Magglio, that's another 15 million so I see them still being active this offseason. Illitch will spend the money.

Why would they get rid of their best hitter..........player? I mean Detriot is a bigger market correct? I don't see them doing that, but is fine by me.

Renteria seems to only be effective in the NL. I'm sure he'll go to an NL team.

Everyone else is up for grabs. Ultimately they'd like to get rid of Guillen or Sheffield, but Magglio is the most tradible. He can fetch some prospects to fill holes. He is 33 and has one year left on his contract, but has a clause that will undoubtedly kick in that adds an additional 2 years. That's 15 million they can slash in payroll in the coming year plus whatever prospects/players they can bring in. Polanco also has a lot of trade value, but given he only has one more year left at only 4 million, it wouldn't make sense to trade him.

He was bad. He had a surge towards the end but he looked old. Diminished range, slow bat.
