Test: Critical Mass UL12 vs. whatever

I was wondering who is the most qualified to do a scientific test of the UL12 and comp. it to some other higher end subs. We all know what Car Audio Mag. said, but there could possibly be bias there. And there have been a bunch of varying opinions over the years, but I don't think the majority of them are base in fact and for that matter I don't think many of the people with opinions have ever heard one.

So what I propose is: I will send the most qualified person one of my UL12's for them to do both objective and subjective testing. I think this would be an oppertunity to hear a "real persons" opinion of the UL and possibly see if it is "the worlds perfect woofer"

Send it to chad/loyd/jim...

They did the "Great 12" Challenge" with dozens of 12" woofers. Graphed them, used a TL to measure SPL, and did a subjective listening review.

Objective/Subjective testing... and plenty of others to compare it to from the previous test results.

You own this sub and you want other peoples opinions about it?
Why dont you write a review first to atleast compare to the testers, maybe a solid selection of tracks on a cd to note the characteristics of the bass response, and all that other good shit?

I mean, every testing will be different unless u have the exact same car, box, amp, etc.

im assuming he would like to get more than 1 person to give an opinion about it. him owning the sub, and then giving it positive reviews wont say much, which is where hiis "real person's opinion" remark came from.

but some spl numbers from spl orientated people, and sq opinions from super sq orientated people would be better IMO.

I don't have the equipment, nor the other brands of subs, and I don't think I could be nonbias enough seeing that it is mine.

obviously I don't want to kill it, So all out spl will be a little out of the question. but seeing how it truly does in relation to other higher end subs would be of great service to all of us, including me. CA mag tested it on it's own, with months between other subs tests. If it could be done in such a way that the subs were changed out fairly quickly and the source material previewed again by the reviewer, I think we could get some real answers.

hopefully I'm not shooting myself in the foot here.

I agree with NGSM13. They have done this testing before so they can actually compare it to a bunch of other subs.

I think some one with a trained ear, a lot of experiance with subs, that had the ability to be impatial could have merit. using equipment and measurements is only one side of the story, and I don't think CA mag would be bold enough to mess with those. but the human ear is another.
