We've done development and public development of this product for a year now. That's how we do things to keep consumers informed. Someone else noticed the market for it and is trying to beat us to market with a clone of a old version we've improved upon. That's just part of business

Look at it this way. As far as we know Ben does not have his own buildhouse, he has used others buildhouses since he went into business. He now claims to have this non existant buildehouse and claims tangband, who has their own buildhouse and is an upstanding company, has stolen his design.

(i.e. re hc's using onyx motors with a black plastic covers over the label) thing is- ben seems to be an idiot, but they have had no real "issues" with the products in the past couple of years.... and yes, I do know the history- i was around for the whole original 9.1 preorder fiasco, or the original a series (flatcone) problems. Bottom line is this- their stuff is cheap, but it works for what you pay for it.... And ben isnt the only company owner or worker that has been an ***. (tc sounds comes to mind, as well as nate from e.a.)

FYI- RE built those for Onyx...they were RE's drivers.

What I always find funny is how they always use the "public development" to "prove" that it was their design......when it doesn't prove a thing.

All Ben had to do was post information and pictures on his forum when he received it from TangBand and you have acheived the same result. He talks w/ TangBand and gets an update, hops on the internet and posts it on his forum. "Public Development". TB sends him a proto, he snaps a picture and posts it on his forum. "Public Development".

From what I know....TB has a patent-pending on the design. So, it should be pretty interesting for Mr. Milne in the coming months and years.

Uhh, some companies actually DO product development (ie: let people try out subs before they go to market) to test durability.

Bingo. If you follow the 'public development' timeline, you will find that it goes from concept discussed over lunch to working prototype VERY quickly -- especially for a custom tooled neo motor driver.

Its amusing that the accusation claims Ben is now getting them built elsewhere if it's totally custom though. So Ben managed to have another buildhouse tool ALL of TB's custom parts? I don't really see how that would be very profitable, given all the tooling costs involved there.

Not saying it isn't true, but at this point it's what ben says vs what dan says that TB said, so it's not like anyone here has "all the facts."

Personally I really don't care either way...

If ED changed anything on the sub it cant be considered infingement. This stuff happens all the time in car performance parts. Tweek the design a little and now its yours

If you look at pics of the production SQ10, it is obvious that there are at least cosmetic changes from the prototype (which is identical to the TB driver). So, if eD owned the tooling, then there would be no need to change the design. TB would have had to change their design.
As Warbleed said, it really is just all speculation at this point. But, this topic never would have come up if it wasn't for Ben's accusations that TB somehow screwed eD out of their own product. Not entirely true.

Copying patented parts or methods of construction is still patent infringement, even if the driver as a whole is different.
