Surface area, or watts?

Hypothetically (just curious and want some input)

would it be best to put more watts rms on a sub, or split that power up, between 2 subs? (double SA but less rms per sub)

pros and cons of each. which would be louder, which would sound nicer ect.

examples.

#1 AQ HDC3 15 on 1 AQ2200 @ 1 ohm.

#2 2 AQ HDC3 15's on 1 AQ2200 @ 1ohm - (1100 watts rms per sub)

Im thinking that if the single sub, per single amp works best, then i might (depending on how i want to do it, so i can get that ohm dvc accordingly) run both subs on their own amp, but @ 2 ohms instead of 1, so theywould get 1300 rms instead of 2200.

im a daily driver.

thanks

kyle

If you have enough airspace for more drivers, and you aren't concerned about being potentially placed in a higher competition class, I'd go with more swept area first. Keeps you out of power compression, and you can always add more power with a minimum of work later.

i have room to run 2 15's in the back of my truck (no seat anymore) i thought base response is better at higher ohms?

i mean its either having (all at 1 ohm) 1 hdc3 15 per AQ2200.

or

both hdc315's on 1 aq2200

i was wondering it 1 hdc315 @ 1ohm on 1 AQ2200

would be louder/more responsive/ better sq,

then 2 hdc3 15's on 1 aq2200, but it wouldnl't only be 1100 watts rms per sub.

so yeah.. lol in yet another way - 1 sub with alot of watts, or 2 subs with less watts?

which will sound nicer (sq) and which will be louder? and which would you choose?

what will more watts do?
Impossible to say. The problem is that once you're already at a kW, simply doubling power isn't going to get you more SPL in a linear way. As you approach the thermal limits of the motor, the corresponding SPL gains decrease...this is what people mean when they talk of "power compression".

It's also the reason why running drivers at their maximum RMS rating or more, or running extremely low impedances for everyday use is a misguided idea. You simply don't need that much power unless you're chasing numbers on a meter, people are doing it simply because they think it's louder.

Pretty accurate

I have room for 2 15's at least.

and so far its either 1 aq2200 for both, aq3000? or a crunch gp3000d-pro

if i could find an SAZ3000d i def would go with that

i dont' think i want to go much more then 3k watts. that would be too much for my app.

theres a few in the classifieds

I say more surface area. I ran into this problem 2 days ago. Of course, Im running with significantly less power than you.

My 5350a puts out 300rms at 2 ohms. I originally had a single kappa sub rated at 350rms. Sounded really nice and got decently loud.

I recently bought two v.1 IDQs rated at 200rms a piece. I have them hooked up to the same amp and they are both only getting half of what the kappa recieved, but it is SIGNIFICANTLY louder.
