subsonic filter

It is like a high pass filter for ultra low bass that is basically below hearing...usually only necessary on ported enclousures because of tuning freq that is boosted...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

when you use a ported enclosure with tremendous power, it can cause damage below the tuning frequency in which you chose to tune to! mostly below 30 hz, thus causing mechanical failure due to over excursion. so the subsonic filter will play a big role in keeping your subwoofer from over excurting due to a full signal from an extreme amount of power. this is called unloading. so if using a sealed enclosure i wouldnt worry about it to much because at that moment it wouldnt be as useful as it would in a ported application. so to put it in simple term's ported is a must, not ported the sub wont bust lol
