They are two totally different amplifiers with two totally different designs. The 7k2d is a much better design.

basically its probably like a 2.0. Just a better version, maybe more efficient. So forth and so on. Basically, if the first was good and you can get it for cheaper, I would just go that route..

I don't think I would say this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^.

7K2d, while similar in the way the amp works, is a single PC board, rather than 2 4kd's (or whatever, 4k6ds?) strapped inside like the old 7KD model.... I would stay 100 miles away from a 7KD unless it's in pristine condition and has never been used by a dBDrag Street A,B,C, or Street Max guy ever....

If I was to use a 7KD in a vehicle, I would make **** sure it was fused properly and NOT push it passed it's limits. If you used common sense and a little restraint, it would probably make a nice 4-5KW daily beater on 14.4V.

The 7K2D is fine for whatever, just make sure with either amp, you have several batteries and good voltage in the 12-16V range and stay within that range if at all possible. 1 ohm is fine with the 7K2D, not sure on the old 7KD, maybe better at 2 ohms....

I don't know for sure, but I think they should be similar for sure. I think the 7K2D would be much more reliable and less touchy to low impedances than the 7KD, but I really haven't played with either amp enough yet (too busy here) to tell you for sure.

I heard the 7k2d does 2000 watts more then the 7kd. When i owned both the 7k2d outperformed the 7kd by a mile....

There ya go! That's more than I have had time for testing for sure. For the record, I like the 7K2D, but I don't really like the 7KD. Not based on performance, but based on what it looks like inside, as I have to fark with them....
