Steering Wheel Controls w/ aftermarket Head Unit Help!

Its time to ditch the stock head unit and get something that can play the iphone and have a better sound and get with the times. I have a 1998 Honda Accord and it has the steering wheel control for seek and volume. I love it, especially its ease cruising back and forth down the interstate from work.

However, I would assume I would lose this feature removing my stock head unit. How can I retain the use of the steering wheel control features with say a new Kenwood aftermarket head unit? I read they have PAC adapters, but the reviews on them do not seem very favorable, as there seems to be a bad delay with them, if they even work at all...any thoughts? Surely this has come up before?

I have a PAC as well for my '08 Silverado...only issue I have is the installation instructions state to program the unit with the ignition in the on position but not with the engine running...I have had to actually start the truck (engine running) in order to program the PAC properly otherwise my steering wheel controls will operate intermittently and that drives me nuts.
