Thoes look amazing, I have one question. When glassin'. how do you get the shape??? I mean how do you mount the ring of mdf??? how do you keep it still??? do you use wooden rods or what??? im not sure that is the only thing that is keepin me from glassin....thanks!

i'm still amazed at how good these are turning out. i've never even touched glass before this. i read the fiberglass tutorial(the sticky) a couple of times, and that was it. i do have one comment about that tutorial though. . . he said he used dixie cups. maybe the paper ones work, but where i work we have the plastic ones. and before i can use half a cup of resin, it eats a hole through the bottom of the cup.

one other thing is mine had a little more curves then gauntlets did, and when i tried to lay the 5x5 squares of mat i had some trouble, so i had to do them in about 3x3" squares. you'll never know till you try.

Try using Gladware...you know, the re-usuable plastic containers made by glad for your kitchen. The resin won't stick to them, and when cured will peel right out with ease. Lots of sizes too.

spray paint. i'm pretty handy w/ some spray paint. you have to realize that there is a very fine line between a nice coat, and a huge run. you have to figure out right before the paint starts to run, and that is a perfect coat. i worked at a body shop so i got some practice. but it was $3 a can, the duplicolor car spray paint at walmart. theres not even any clear on it, that cheap paint turned out better than i thought. if you look at the pics of the finished one,you can see in the bottom left of the speaker hole, the fiberglass chipped. today i learned why you take the router to the ring BEFORE the fiberglass is on. i already had it bondo'd and primered when i did this and didn't feel like fixing it that far into it. its barely noticable though.

they look alot better than i thought they would over top of the trim panel.

top notch. i wish i had a router for mine, i was way too lazy to sand and paint, i was too scared id skuff the paint and make it all crappy with my feet (live in NY and theres a SHlTLOAD of snow here in the wintertime and lots of salt and crap... so i opted for the more durable carpet.

looks fine to me =P

very good job jellyman. first try? sweet. im gonna start my ported fiberglass box hopefully tomrrow. we will see how it goes. no sub for me for this weekend. gotta have the fiberglass to cure.
