You can over do it when you are working out. You only need to do 3-4 days a week. The muscles need recovery time to grow. Should be lots of exercises that work multiple muscles such as squats, dead lifts and bench. And to gain weight you need 1.5-2 grams of protein, and a good portion of that should be food, not powder as well as lots of carbs to keep your energy up so your lifts can progressI'm 155-160lbs at like 5'8" and cant gain any weight if my life depended on it
I worked out for every day for a year straight, consuming my body weight in grams of protein per day (mostly whey but other stuff to) and no changes.
Also I drink about a case of beer every weekend.. I get baked eat mad pizza/chips/candy and grill up steaks/shrimp on the reg and alot of mountain dew
