SS or RE

This question has more of a purpose than just which one. I was thinking of either a 15" XXX or 2 12" SS RL-ps. Now my thinking is really hinging on expanding later on. Meaning: Either now I just get two rl-p 12's with 1200 watts and thats it, or I get myself a 15"XXX and perhaps later exapnd to two. I was just wondering how the two current setups would compare. THey would be in a 4runner with 1200 watts either way. And in ported boxes. So what do you guys think?

It'll come down to space and your goals.

Are you trying to just be the loudest you can be? And how much space would you like to have in the back for stuff? The two boxes (for now) would be close in size probably, but 2 15" is going to eat some serious space up and the cost to power it could get substantial (upgrade to 0ga. wires, maybe a HO alternator, etc.).

If the most power you'll ever run is 1200w, go with the Rl-p's.

If you are going to increase power by another 1200w once you get a 2nd XXX (and do the appropriate electrical upgrades), then I'd go with the XXX's.

Well my ultimate goal is sql pretty much like everyone, I want to be loud without sacrificing sq. As for space, I dont care if it take up my whole back are. And if I do get a second XXX then I would probably end up sealing those to save space. Upgrading to a second XXX wont be for a while though because as stated it takes much more than just buying another sub. Or should I maybe go with a 12" XXX so upgrading to two would be easier later, and I am sure one would make me happy since I have never had a system before.

I highly doubt you'll be happy with this. IMO if you can't port the second then stick with a single one ported... just not gonna be worth the money(sub, amp, elect. upgrades etc.). Can't wait to get mine ported //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif.

just my 2cents

well, I was having a tough time deciding between 2 RL-p 12" sealed or one 12" XXX ported... decided to go with the 2 12" Rl-p since it will be easier to glass sealed than ported..... for you I'd do the XXX since it would sound great, and still leave you the room to upgrade if you ever decided to....

also food for thought: if you havent already, maybe take a look at the 15" rl-p drivers?

According to mike from soundsplinter, they perform very well in sealed enclosures... and you said you might do that later on when you upgrade.
