SQ/SPL box?

Anybody ever hear of a spl/sq box , a buddy of mine says he saw a guy that had a sub box that was sealed for everyday listening, but when he wanted to show off he had a removable wedge and a tuned port that would slide down into the box so he could db drag...is this possible? Wouldn't the airspace difference between sealed and ported specs be too different even with a port? And wouldn't it cause the sub woofer to blow very easy? If it is possible and safe that sounds freaking awsome. What are your thoughts?

You might as well just build two different boxes, imo.

I've tried messing around with ported boxes and sealing the ports, it never really works. The volume differences are usually too much.
