You are right in that whether or not people give a crap does not necessarily equal good or bad SQ. But the demand drives the market. No, I wouldn't use most rock to fine tune a SQ setup either. But then, I didnt start a thread trying to legitimize this sort of claim. Can you honestly say you could see a professional tuner using [generic] rap to fine tune a SQ car before an event? Not some obscure rapper with a song that really doesn't fit the genre (heavy bass), your average every day rap song. If not, I dont see why we are having this debate. Personally I would chose to use a wide range of music, spanning the entire range Id listen to. But for fine tuning, Id probably use classical, or a more modern but well balanced and recorded track Im very familiar with. I suppose I could see using rap for tuning some of the bottom end in the system, perhaps abit more. Just like Id use rock in certain ways (probably midbass lol). Another little trick to try tuning is using talk radio (strong signal) or recorded speaking voices. A regular speaking voice can actually have quite a few tell-tale signs of issues with a system's tuning. Fine tune your system for realism, then turn on Imus and see how realistic his voice sounds. Well, maybe not Imus.
