If you buy a amp and plan on using its on board processors, than you can definately hear the difference between amps. However if you buy seperate external processors(eq,crossover), than the amp you buy will not make much difference. Now obviously a cheap amp rated at 1000 peak will not be as loud as a quality amp rated at 1000 rms.
