i happen to have a friend signed to universal and one signed to sony. they have been signed for over 6 years and have yet to "make it big" made more money as an independent. thats the only way you are going to move up with a major is to have a very good nationwide following, have lawyer/management like Goldstein behind you, and have already pushed over 200k in sales independently. otherwise you are just another chance the label takes and eventually drop from the roster. i was in a group signed to ploygram in 1999. instead of dope, cars, and wheels that my partners bought i bought a computer and MPC2000, nice keyboards and a 24 track recorder along with mics and converted a condemned home into a studio. when the deal fell thru i sold the studio for a nice sum of change. geffen doesnt impress me unless you are doing tracks with questlove.

53k units and no one here knows who you are. 53k independent units usually leaves the artist with $6 a unit after touring and other promotional expenses. if they were your management then thats another 20% which leaves you with $200k ish. if you are 17, with 200k you should at least be rolling a car that commensurates with the $. you dont. so either you are a liar or just plain broke. or does mommy and daddy have the cash?
