SO I WAS LOOKING AT A FEW SUBS AND STUFF YESTERDAY AND I WANTED TO PRETTY MUCH GET ACROSS THE SQ SUB VS A SPL SUB POINT, ALSO WHAT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A UNDERHUNG VOIL COIL VS A OVERHUNG VOICE COIL.. I KNOW THAT MOST SUBS ARE UNDERHUNG COILS AND THAT MEANS U CAN SEE THE VOICE COIL JUST BY LOOKING INTO THE GAP THROUGH THE BASKET, I KNOW A OVERHUNG COIL, IF YOU LOOK INTO THE SUB U CANT SEE THE VOICE COIL AND I KNOW THAT IF YOU PLAY A (( OVERHUNG VOICE COIL )) SPEAKER I KNOW THAT THE COIL STAYS PRETTY MUCH HIDDEN WHEN IT PLAYS, MY OLD re audio xxx 12 is a extreamly good sounding sub FOR WHAT IT IS , i had 2 xxx 12s and i switch them out for another pair of 12s. i must say FOR A SQ SUB Them 05s XXX did work!!!! its seems to me on a sq sub theres only 1 or 2 spiders and i think sq subs , they may not handel as much power and i know they are made to play ANYTHING VS A SPL WOOFER that seems kind of peaky. a sundown ZV4 vs 05 xxx . the zv4 subs will want to naturlly play and have a lower bass sound and they have almost a muddy sound on the higher notes. like if you tune a zv4 to 28htz, it will want to play the lower bass and peak there. i did the same with my xxx and it seemed to not be as ((PEAKY) it played a low low bass (30 hertz )) like a ALL I BLOW IS LOUD FROM JUICY JAY or it also dosent mind my girl driving down the road playing a extreamly high dubstep bass with basslines that are 40htz and up. ive always tuned my boxes lower than 35 hertz, and some subs like the zv4, to be completly honest , they like the 28-35 hertz bass and that prettty much it, ive tryed them inside a prefab box tuned to 41 hertz, and that was the only box i could make them play notes that were above 40 that sounded good im not saying they didnt play it loud ,im saying it in terms of audioble ness. ex if u play young jeezy put on. in a box tuned low ( 28 ) ,the zv4 will catch the lower one by far the best, my xxx played the notes evenly and JUST as loud on the lower notes, sq subs dont seem to be as picky to boxes, i mean the box is 99.9% of the build. ive always enjoyed the high dollar SQ subs , im not so fond of the big chunky surrounds and all the high excursion stuff. ive always like subs like, 2005 r.e audio xxx series, FI n3 series, DD Z , incrimanator JUDGE series, warden . ive had my hands on TONS of subs, sq subs and spl subs, i havent worked with every single sub out there, and theres a difference between hearing a speaker and then like messing with it by putting in inside different boxes and stuff, to be completly honest with no BS, if you build a box for 2 sundown zv3 15s or a pair of regular pair of alpine typr rs , or just any pretty much average sub, you can get them bumpin pretty good, just as loud as a sub that rated 50 billion watts. also it seems to me that just because the speaker is bigger dosent mean itll be louder either. it does but it dosent , if you put 2 18s inside a chevy cobalt trunk and u switch them out for a truck pair of solid 12s , the 12s will be louder.
