SPL contest.

I read a thread about some subs blowin when you go to SPL contests. I'm planning on going to one, and i don't want to blow my subs:( . I want to know what they hit, but i don't know what they hit. I'm going down to my dealer tomorrow to see if my subs are still under warrantee and stuff. i don't want to spend any more $$ on my system untill i get a new car, and i think that if i blow the subs that i'll have to pay the money to get M6's or MacDaddy's.

Does anybody think that it is worth the risk?

Don't send them a clipped signal. You only need to hold the frequency for about 3 seconds. Usually people blow their subwoofers through dialing everything high in order to get that last .1 dB out.

Some companies warranties won't cover subs blown in SPL comps. It's considered "user abuse." That would be if you were in the recommended power range. Go above that power and the other companies warranties will be void too.

Basically make sure you set everything up correctly to maximize your output and don't struggle for that extra point whatever dB like others seem to do. And if all else fails, LIE about how you blew them, lol.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You should at LEAST hit 145 with that set up. Then again, the vehicle makes a big difference. A guy had much better stuff than me and lost cause his car sucked *** and vibrated bad. They had to push him off the testing area cause his battery died from the testing.

You can shoot the with burst of power...not a continous power...for your M5s, I would not shoot them with anything over 1300 watts...but hell yeah, it's worth it...

i wouldnt turn up the gain to max out volume...when i went into a little comp for my frist time...i didnt have ANY distortion in my subs..i had a Visonik V800XD and 2 12" JBL GT's adn i hit 141.7db's w/out distortion. i find that pretty good. i had 750 watts rms.

Thanks guys. I talked to my dealer and He said go for it. If i blow 'em he'll replace em. I'll let you know what i hit for dB when the comp comes up. Its Aug. 10th, so i'ts still a ways away.

What is the best way to push spl, should i turn the gain way up on the amp and the volume lower on the deck, or the opposite. Just wondering.

My jeep rattles like a biatch on the outside, but minimally on the inside, do you think that will take away from the SPL?

Turn your bass all the way up, trebble all the way down. If your head unit has the function, adjust it to the frequency your box is tuned at. When you go to a competition they should give you a free run through and give you advice on what to set it at. Buy a Mecca Sound Competition CD or something VERY similar. Mine was tuned at 60 Hz so i blasted that with the CD (you can choose from 20-99 Hz). Have a couple buddies push in the parts of the car that rattle most! Good luck!

Uhh.. i have a sealed box.... so i don't have many obvious options on what Freq. to use.

Should i go w/ a lower frequency, or a higher freq? I'm completely new to this, and i know that ported boxes are much louder, but it was not an option because of the cramped space that the box had to fit into.

It all depends on the size of the box and the sub. It should be between 40-60. My friend has a 6 cubic foot ported box for his L7 and his is 43 Hz. For me 60 Hz best, so it all depends- they should check for you at the competition when u do your clinic.
