SPL and Lower Frequencies

Are you still able to achieve the same SPL readings on boxes that are tuned lower opposed to ones tuned higher for getting loud? I ask because Im starting to find that I prefer the lower frequencies. They for one sound better to me, and second of all, the higher frequencies rattle the hell out of my trunk.

i dont quite understand your question. but i think i get it a little. Usually 40-65hz will be louder on the meter than say 30hz with the same power. but it depends alot on the vehicle and box tuning.

Well, I guess I first should ask just how closely getting loud and having a lot of SPL are linked together. Ive been under the impression that they tend to be two seperate things.

But Im not actually trying to get loud as much as I just want to make sure that I can "feel the music" if I build a lower tuned box.

lower notes being louder on a mic than say 40-50 htz tones is not likely because a vehicles resonant? frequency is higher than 30-35 on most vehicles, among other things... i hope i'm somewhat accurate

That's not always true and there are too many factors to consider when saying that. Just take a look at the great 12 challenge and you will see that many subs can be louder below 40hz depending on the enclosure.

Yes...

You can get loud down low. May take a little extra playing around, but its very possible...

and No, you don't need 4 15" drivers to do it.

I do over a 150 right @ 40hz, and would be pretty close if not over a 50 at 38 and 39hz.

And I have a single 12" sub.
