You now have moderator privileges and can help make our forums cleaner, more organized and more productive. A list of your moderator privileges are listed below:

*Ensure threads are in the correct forum

*Make important threads "sticky"

*Delete abusive posts/threads

*Close abusive threads

*First priority in banning abusive members

*Moderate the photo gallery

*Assist members with forum functions

*Ability to discuss forum issues with other moderators in the "Moderator Backroom" forum

As you probably already know, with great power comes great responsibility. Please use the utmost restraint in moving, deleting and making threads sticky! Please read and follow the below guidelines in performing your moderator duties:

*Only move threads if there is a clear and definite reason to do so. Please be passive and use restraint in moving threads. Also, please use extra care in moving threads out of the "General Discussion" thread. If a thread in the "General Discussion" forum contains any reference to car audio at all (with the exception of help threads), please do not move it.

*Do not move a thread because someone posts an off-topic post within a thread that is in the right forum. Report the post to us and we will take care of it.

*Do do not delete a post unless it is abusive to other members, contains spam, or is obscene (contains obscene language, ******, racial comments, hate messages, etc). If you are unsure what do do, please report it to us and we will take care of it. Please use utmost care in deleting posts!

*When deleting a post in The Lounge, or closing a thread, please use EXTREME caution. The Lounge was created to give users a mostly unmoderated forum to discuss whatever was on their mind. At first, we were against any sort of member moderation, simply because it wasn't out of control. However, as the forum has grown, so have the number of obscene posts. Because of this, we have decided to allow moderators to step in to help control it. However, you must be very careful in what you moderate! Please do not delete a post that does not contain ******, threats, or very obscene messages. You should allow 99% of posts to remain unchanged. We will monitor The Lounge to make sure what is deleted, needs to be deleted. Also, do not close a thread unless it is absolutely necessary!

*Please make SURE you enter a reason when deleting a post/thead.

*Only close threads that cleary need to be ended due to obscene, or hassing posts. Use this wisely, as we have found it angers alot of members when a thread they started is closed. Please use this option before, or if you can avoid deleting a thread. Remember, deleting a thread is the last resort and should only be used when the CarAudio.com TOS have clearly been violated.

*Please maintain a maximum of 2 sticky threads per forum. A thread may remain sticky for a maximum of 30 days. Only make threads sticky that are very important, or beneficial to the forum and it's members. Do not make a thread sticky because of a personal desire to do so, or for commercial gain. Please use this function wisely and work with the other moderators.

*Only edit a member's signature, or avatar when it clearly violates the TOS, or contains commercial links, obscenities, or ****. Please use caution when doing this, so as not to wrongfully edit signature data that is allowed and not against the TOS. In other words, don't destroy their whole signature to erase one line of text.

*You now have the ability to ban seriously offensive members. Please use this wisely!! We can't stress this enough. Only ban a member when they deliberately break the forum rules, which include:

Hate, or obscene language.

Spamming of the forums, which includes commercial ads, multiple offensive posts, or disruptive posts.

Failure to follow other forum polices after sufficient warnings.

Again, please use this wisely!

If in your opinion you feel someone should be banned, but you aren't absolutely sure what to do, please post a thread in the Backroom describing how the member has broken forum policy and a link to the post. Reasons for banning a member include *multiple* obscene, harassing, spam, or off-topic messages. When we receive a request to ban a member, we will validate that the member is a candidate and take appropriate action. Please read the How-to section on banning below.

*Please make sure the gallery images are in the right category and delete abusive posts in the gallery.

Forum How To's:

*Move a thread:

In the upper right corner of the thread, select "Thread Tools". There should be a drop-down menu box giving you moderation options. Select "move/copy", then you will need to select the correct forum to which the thread will be moved. Then click the "Move/Copy" button.

*Delete a thread:

In the upper right corner of the thread, select "Thread Tools". There should be a drop-down menu box giving you moderation options. Select "Delete Posts", then you will need to enter a reason why the post/thread is being deleted. Then click the "Delete Posts" button. Remember, you must enter a valid reason why the post is being deleted!

*Delete a post:

Click the edit button in the lower right hand corner of the message you want to delete. On the next page, select "Delete Message" and then enter a reason why the post is being deleted. Then click "Delete this Message" button. Remember, you must enter a valid reason why the post is being deleted!

*Make a thread sticky:

In the upper right corner of the thread, select "Thread Tools". There should be a drop-down menu box giving you moderation options. Select "Stick Thread", then you will need to click the "Perform Action" button. To unstick a thread, use same, except select "Unstick".

*Edit a member's signature, or avatar:

Click the "Mod" link in the lower right corner of the forum homepage. (or goto http://www.caraudio.com/forum/modcp/index.php) Enter your username and password to login to the Moderator Control Panel. On the left hand column, click "Users" and then "Search for Users". Enter the username you wish to edit.

*Ban a member:

In the Moderator Control Panel, click the "Ban User" link in the left hand column. Enter the member's username, duration of the ban and a valid and understandable reason to the member why their being banned.

Signature and avatar violations (after warning via private message and 48-hours for the user to make the change) should carry a 1-day ban.

All other reasons for banning as noted above, should carry a permanent ban. If there is a circumstance where you aren't sure what to do, ask us or post a message in the Backroom.

Gallery How To's:

*Move an image:

In the upper right hand corner of the image box, select "Image Tools". There should be a drop-down menu box giving you moderation options. Select "Edit Image", then you will need to select the correct category to which the image will be moved. Then click the "Save Changes" button.

*Delete a post:

In the lower right hand corner of the post, click the "Edit" button. On the following page, check delete this image, then click "Delete this Message" button.

I think that this needs a major overhaul, what do you guys think? This was from '05 or '06...
