Ok, Im going to be installing a set of 6.5" comps in the next day or two. I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am. I opened up the door today to see what i was up against. Behind the door panel I have an extremely big opening in the door. What can I use to cover this so I can deaden the doors? I also noticed that the hole for the speakers is too small and I was wondering what I could use besides some mdf rings to raise the speakers? Thanks

I used 1/8 acrylic and some good old silicon to seal the large holes. As far as what to use besides mdf , you can check and see if they make abs adapters for your car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Cover the openings with sound deadner like RAAmat or Damplifier from second skin. As for raising the speaker just do the MDF ring, it's really the easiest way... I actually prefer to modify the stock speaker mount myself though....

Is acrylic similar to plexi? I always break plexi when I try to work with it and I can never find sheets of decent plastic to work with...

Yep plexiglass is a brand name of acrylic . When using the thin stuff , tape it up with a few layers of masking tape before you cut it . It will keep you from cracking it and scratching the chit out of it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Hardboard works well , remember to seal it up with something . IT has a chance of getting wet inside your doors. Only reason I used acrylic is cause I had a bunch of pieces laying around from previous projects //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
