So why is there a hangup on how much one spends?

Superstition is bad luck
I have noticed in quite a few threads that this forum tends to bash people who want to spend $1000s on thier systems. I say if you have the money, why not go for the gusto.

I don't bash anyone for bettering their stock systems by adding an amp and a sub...nor would I bash someone who spent >$3000 on an amp. It is personal taste you guys.

Earl Zausmer and his infamous BMW540 thought outside the realm and introduced B&W 901 Speakers to the autosound world. He spent THOUSANDS on his system! I used to own a pair of 901's, and let me tell you that they are some of the nicest speakers I have ever heard. But when I sat in Earl's car and listened to it at the IASCA finals some years back, it sounded better than my home speakers.

Now I don't have the $50,000 to upgrade my car sound to that high of a level. I designed a system for a friend who only had about 600 to spend. So I got her into some PowerAcoustic amps, a kicker 10, some Premier coax's and a premier hu and let me tell you guys...that sucker sounded nice!

It isn't about how much you spent on the system, it is how much you love your system as to the true value of it.

The only bashing I notice, is when someone buys thousands on the equipment. And does not know the difference from an OHM to a Watt...

I see nothing wrong with buying expensive products. I do prefer the cheaper counterpart because I work hard for my money and have plenty more bills than caraudio.

I think it's a matter of patience. It's not that person x can spend no more than $300 on an amplifier ever, but if x wants that amplifier _now_, $300 may be the spending-ceiling.

Patience.

Remember, 3/4 of the board is under 21.

I guess I don't see too much bashing of those with expensive systems. More bashing goes on with the people who have Sony and Pyle.

But, the bashing of expensive equipment that I do see is when something thinks that they must spend thousands on their system to get good performance.

I can understand most all these reply's.

I forgot that most of the members here are under 25yo...and I have that beat by 13 years. I also can understand the ceiling that some have for sound. I agree that you don't have to spend $5k on equipment to make a car sound good. I had USD waveguides and Orion 6mb's, canton coax and orion cobalt 10's with V12 amps. Qualified me for IASCA nationals back in mid '90s but due to someone who wanted my system more than I did, after insurance finished with me, Nationals had come and gone.

Now with success comes quality. My system is everything I couldn't afford back in '96 and now I can.

I truly believe it is the installation integrity that can make or break a system, no matter how much you spend.

Maybe cuz he understands now? I think we brought up some good points. No need to get all testy at him:)

My tune hasn't changed. I see why people ask about why someone spends "X" amount of dollars on his system. What I don't see is when someone flames someone else you spent "XX" dollars on his system.

I see that we all have to start out somewhere. God knows my original system when I was 16..eesh...was a pioneer supertuner with autosearch on the cassette, I had a pyramid 7 band 250w (yea right) graphic equalizer under the dash, and 3pair of Jensen Quadrax 6x9's in the back. **** thing was loud as heck, but distortion was more prominent than true quality sound.

I am very supporting of those who are just starting out. VERY rarely will you find some kid whose parents pay for a full on competition system, it happens, but very rarely. Most of us have to start somewhere.

I agree you have to have some kind of general knowledge about car audio before you can boast about your system. A watt is most definately different from an ohm. But if someone wants to put multiple subs that cost 500 bucks each in his car, why must he show proof of purchase?

Rather than giving this kid grief for being ambitious enough to build a hard hitting, ear-splitting sound system, try just congratulating him for his efforts and help him with his problem.

I am sure we all know which thread this was about...but really it is only the third or fourth that i have read when someone challenges ones purchase and system.

Sorry, I just find it somewhat ridiculous.

Then again, I am 38.

Ah, so this is in relation to that guy that keeps talking about his gorage.

Of course people are skeptical when someone claims to have six 15" XXXs, with three Viper 2700's (especially considering that he didnt even know the model number of his amps.)

Why wouldnt people doubt those claims?
