[QUOTE="hispls, post: 8718441, member: 614752"] Meh, probably do a lot of testing and pass some suggestions to the buildhouse but certainly no real engineering or innovation such as Thilo stompler and LMS motor design (among other useful patents) or Dan Wiggins and his work with XBL^2, or Alex Salvatti and other JBL engineers who patented use of copper shorting rings. Asking China to make a huge ass surround and a deeper frame is about on par with the """invention""" of quad coil and using flat wound wire in coils. Somewhat innovative and certainly expensive to get the tooling made up, but hardly significant advancement.... then again, there has been little fundamental changes in the loudspeakers since Peter Jenson invented the moving coil loudspeaker 105 years ago. So either there's not much more room for big improvement/innovation, or nobody has ponied up the dough to put a real genius engineer on the job to try to dream up something really revolutionary. Still though, when we consider the big advances in technology in the last 20 years or so, Salvatti, Stompler, and Wiggins are the only 3 that I'd say were doing any groundbreaking engineering. Everything else is just slight design modifications or quality of life gimmicks. I'll give Jacob credit where due for the few nice things he has had added, but let's not pretend he's paying some engineering department in-house big 6 figure salaries to dream up really new technology.
