So who's an engineer major

I was in mechanical engineering, but I hated it. I wanted to be more on the design side, but it felt like the classes were pushing me towards a cubicle. I absolutely loved math, but the minute I had to apply it to stuff, I hated it for some reason.

I wanna go for either electrical or mechanical. Still undecided. Is it really as hard as everyone says?
Well the electrical side isn't really THAT bad, but it depends on how good at math you are. Expect to go up through calculus 3 and depending on the school linear algebra and differential equations. I mean, its really not that bad once you get the hang of it.

How smart/good at math do you have to be? I'm a business major right now, but I am looking for a new major. Ideally, I'd like to be something like an acoustic engineer. I hear FSU (where I'm at now) has a decent engineering program. I got a 680/800 on the math section on my SAT if that means anything.
Well all the engineering programs at my school are pretty math intensive, except computer engineering, I think they stop at calculus 2 and differential equations. But its good you got pretty high in a trig/algebra based test, but it gets much more intensive.

MAN if I could go back and take the math portion of the SAT again, that would be awesome haha.

nuclear engineering for the NAVY here. teh suxors. stressful as shyt!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif:verymad:

So electrical is easier than mechanical? Im taking calc 1 in high school right now and its pretty easy. I got a 1250 on the SAT and a 700+ on the math. Think ill be ok for mechanical?

Well most people say electrical is harder, but I think mechanical is harder. I would fail horribly in statics and dynamics, I **** at force diagrams and hated physics 1. I was never into the mechanics as much as I was the electrical side anyways.

Industrial Electronics Technology just started this semester. Being out of school since 96 makes it kinda rough though. There are kids straight out of High School that can't pass the tests for basic english , math, etc. I just don't see how they could even graduate from HS.

Started in EE, now i'm in BME...

Is that Bio-Medical Engineering? I know a few of those here at school, seems to be one of the harder engineering programs.

As for EE, most people say it is harder than ME as it is much more theory and numbers than mechanical physical systems. I love doing EE, I am doing my concentration in electronics and am now taking VLSI Design and Physical Electronics, both are pretty cool.

Are you going to UC for school? If so what year? My sister is also in that program and says it is pretty hard at times.

For me I'm a senior in high school and looking at majors now. I'm kinda split between ME and Construction Management. With CM you co-op every other semester and when you get your degree you pretty much have a job when you walk out the door.

Senior Mechanical Engineer. Looking for a job when i graduate in the spring then going back for my masters
I'm thinking about mechanical engineering... either at ncsu, virginia tech, or unc-c

Where did you go to school and what are the engineering classes like? Any idea what you will be doing at the positions you are applying for?

Im mainly curious as to if its more field work, or more desk work...
