Just an FYI that is NOT an ODR headunit. The headunit you posted is the equivalent of the P9 here in the states. The ODR unit is similar in looks but quite different inside.

i liked the 880 in person but in the pics it looks like crap IMO. pretty much all the color screened pio's are ugly as all hell, the p9 is nice but the silver face makes it a PITA to match up.

i hate alpine's look even though that's what i'll be running (function over beauty)

denons are ok but have the same problem as the p9 unless you get the black faced ones which are sexy as hell.

Why worry about matching anything when you state "function over beauty".?? If you owned a P9 you would fall in love with it. I did.

For someone like me who cares NOTHING about multi channel I would miss nothing that the 701 might offer over the P9. Because multi channel is about all the 701 offers over the P9.

Not knocking your setup though, I'm sure it will do you justice.

peq+graphic for competitions, mp3 playblack for long trips, the ability to play dvds for my brother's whiny kids when i go to his place for the holidays.

the p9 is a great combo but doestn't touch the 701

Well, don't forget that versatility is only 1 aspect. There is also build quality and sound quality. Both the deck and processor of the P9 combo are built far better than any Alpine head unit released by Alpine the past 2 or 3 years atleast. Sound quality, well I have never heard an Alpine 701 setup so I couldn't tell you which would sound better. My guess is the P9 due to a better built head unit but I really have no idea.
