I was laid off Nov 30 because they closed down my district. The offered us 2 choices: 1transfer to the next closest yard (75 miles one way for me); 2 work 20 days on and 10 days off flying to North Dakota. I rode it out for as long as possible to catch as much salary as I could. Then they finally penned me down and forced an answer. I told them I would take the third option and take unemployment once they decide that they were done with me. I have some gaps in my resume. I was fired for an accident in a company vehicle on private property so it isn't on my record. A 5 month gap where I lived on my saving because I quit a job that I burned out from working 10-16hour days 7 days/week. The next was 8 months when Schlumberger doesn't like it when you total a million dollar truck. I never filed for unemployment. I had some money stashed away both time. I didn't plan on being out of work for that long the second time around. I just happened to lay the truck on its side 2 weeks before the Fanny May and Freddy Mac debacle. I haven't had any complications getting a job. I have another one lined up. I just have to wait for somebody to leave.
