Im going to be repainting some interior accent pieces in my truck, but i want a smooth appearance to them rather than the stock textured look that GM has.

What can i put on the pieces to smooth everything out? I'm not sure what will bond well with the material.

this is what i mean by "textured"

The plastic ones you can use a DA with about 220-400 to take the textur down. Then hit it with some high build. The vinyle will be more difficult.
huh?

Care to explain in depth a bit? DA? high build? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You're going to have to sand the texture out. Than he's saying use a high build primer. It's kinda thicker than normal and fills in any imperfections

da sander-dual action sander

I usually start with 180 grit and sand the texture completely off. If you use an automotive primer that you spray with a gun this is the highest grit you have to use. With a rattle can primer I would use the 180 then go up to a 280 and wet sand it. Also I would recommend using a plastic cleaner and an adhesion promoter before you prime to make sure the paint sticks. After you prime it sand with 400 grit and paint. SEM makes paint that will stick to plastic and you don't have to use and adhesion promoter or primer if you don't want to.
