Smelly.. VC or glue?

What is the crossover settin on the amp, what happens if I turn it to ehh 100 or 80 or 60.
It allows certain frequencies to pass. If how set a low pass to 100 it would let any under 100 pass if you set a high pass to 100 it will let anything above 100hz pass for the most part.

Well, I played with the LPF's and the xover and it sounds better than before w/o the smell. Drove for a few hours today and I'm guessing it was excess glue. Which is good.

If you bought it used, then you should not be smelling anything. Chances are you are fine considering the power you are sending it, but just error on the side of caution. Also like mentioned the x-over limits the frequencies the driver recieves, however if set at 80, it doesn't mean you will not get 90hz frequencies playing through it, it simply attenuates them progressively the higher it gets.

A sub-sonic filter is a good idea, but hardly required. Many amps and external crossovers have them built in. You can run the sub wherever it sounds best to YOU. Currently, my Iridium is at 50hz and sounds fantastic (sq install) and I think it doesn't balance as well above 63hz, but that is my taste and in my car. Just play with it and do what you like. You were likely smelling the box, glue, etc. I have been smelling fiberglass for a week with leaving my hatch and windows down every night in my garage.

Set the LPF to around 70-80hz...the gains I think may need to be about half or less, how are you running the L7? In series or parallel? Is it DVC 2 or DVC 4? L7s shouldn't be smelling. I let mine smell and they blew...how does it smell you need to describe to us the smell, does it smell like something is burning?

The smell went away, LPF's set at 80. Box is 40hz so im guessing the tones I played were under 40hz, thus fookin the sub up. New box in the making though. i wanna do 34hz. 3cuft

Yeah lower the tunning for daily driving. If I had the chance to I would lower my tunning to around 30hz.
