Did you find this easy to use, and did it work well? I've been in the market for one.

yes its very easy to use and i used the clp indicator on the remote from a digital designs amp and it was accurate . steve meade did a test with an osope and the smd dd-1 was right on as well

Does the instruction manual go over every aspect of how to hook it up and use it?

the manual explains step by step . its so simple that if u can hook up a neg and positive of a speaker to the amp u can use this tool . for example , the way to test the h.u. is either run the rca cable into the smd tool port or if they dont fit simply use the supplied harness negative to ground and positive to the rca tip and with the supplied cd see where it clips when turning up volume .

Huh, wow that is easy. I've heard that people have had trouble with the DD1's setting their gains too high, and blowing their amps. Ever ran across this problem?

if you blow ur amp with a dd-1 you will blow it with any other tools . i mean if you set the gains properly and use common sense then its hard to blow the amp , for example there are 3 settings u can use sq,loder or spl persay.

so lets use the sq its a conservative rating and is safe but if u run the amp @ a low impedenace and have teribble voltage drop that ultimately leads to amp failure is that the dd-1 fault ? no...

with any real life situations any tool ,manual or advise only goes so far common sense of the operator is key to the survival of caraudio equipment.

i have heard of pepole blowing an amp with the dd-1 by taking the red probe of the tool when the amp is on and grounding to the body the amp . ive heard it this is only for some amps and if u take a paper clip and take the speaker positive and ground to the body of the amp the same result will happen hense the" common sense" as in most amp mauals there is a note saying DO NOT GROUND ANY SPEAKERS TO BODY /CHASSIS.

me personally have never blown or heard of any one i know blowing one there was a thread on db-r forum that sombody blow x amount of amps due to user error . some amps u can take and ground out speakers and they will survive some will blow .

i have used this tool on over 30 amps total audiosystem, sundown,dd,audioque, american bass,dc,crescendo,rd,zed audio and lanzar never had a single issue

sorry cant compete with sonic go buy it there and thanks for the descrete pm tho ...

i see 150 shipped and 5% off when u buy a combo but since they are out of stock who knows if they even get them back in , either way i paid 160 direct from smd who has them in stock btw . also i would pay 100 per unit if somebody had one for sale in the condition mine is in lol
