hello guys I just finished building a ported enclosure for 1 skar audio zvx-8. approximately 2.5cuft internal. I noticed that there was a lot of excursion but not as much sound as I was expecting, gain is about a quarter way and the thing was flexing a lot. im thinking that means not good power handling, but is that because of the sub itself or is it in the enclosure? I know skar audio says the recommended ported volume is .8-1cuft but I was using windisd beta and I noticed that when I did it at 1cuft the tuned frequency would drop about 3db and the frequencies above that would dip down a lot. so the response would be very steep, that is the reason why I designed it so big, so the wave was more gradual. did I make a mistake doing that? should I always follow the recommended volume according to the manufacturer? what exactly should i look for on the graph on winisd when designing an enclosure, a gradual wave, a steep wave or not pay attention to the shape of the wave and only monitor when the tuned frequency is at the highest db? am I expecting to much from an 8inch sub? I mean its rated at 900wrms.

btw Im using an alpine pdx-m12

thanks

Sell/recone the 8, and put a 10 or 12 in there. You neglected the fact that woofers can bottom out in too big of an enclosure. It'll act like if it was Free air.

I had two Skar amps (4ch & a monoblock) go bad within a year. Post #2 is an excellent recommendation.
