i say about 20% of cc and bby people actually have a grasp of what they are doing 60% try to listen and do a good job with some bs then you have the other 20% that make you wonder how they made it/found their way to work.lol. box stores are about money more so than a local shop so they push numbers. least at the store i worked at if i wasnt busy in my department i was busy else where. part that made it hard for me was i always told the truth/honest and if someone didnt want a service plan i took them at their word by tone of voice and how they looked me in the eye. to me its more important to be trusted and respect peoples decissions than it is to try and convince them the are wrong.......if they have a want guide it thats a salesmans job and in all honesty 8 times out of ten they will buy other items they would like to have along with it as long as you express how they can use it or be of use to them. i either scored really high or really low on my presentations but its almost like the supervisors didnt take into consideration my repor with the customer. the one that steamed me was a guy already had a prefab box (same q logic we sold) had a rf 301 mono amp and needed the best sub for that situation. i got service and the sub sale on a he 12 but razzed because i didnt offer wire or a box although we already covered those bases by me asking him what he had. its almost like they grade on what you sell over how well you LISTEN and try to help. all the questions they want you to ask are sell on top of questions rather than this is what the customers wants and needs are. (this was 2001ish) and at the time that job was a huge step backwards in salesmanship but i do know they improved to a toleratable style (they were starting customer first programs when i left) now that just seems funny. to the folks that work at these stores remember this if you want loyalty treat people how you would want to be treated reguardless of how the store "grades" you you will find that loyalty isnt price dependant its earned through honestly trying to help. if you dont know find out and if you still cant find out through the store be honest and research it at home. i did this a few times (at bby and at other shops) and when i called them back within a day/ couple of days i made some of the biggest sales i ever did. it basically lets the people know you want to make it as right for them as you can and thats the most anyone can ask of you.
