Show Cars and winners???

Ok, well my car audio life consists of always looking for the best quality I can get, based on the budget I have at the time. However I find it interesting that when you see show winners, many times its what I would call so so equipment. Or on par with what I have now. Does this mean that placement, imaging, proper crossover points, and EQ'ing is more important then the speaker and amplifiers you use?

Or does this just mean, at the show the car won at, nobody had a top of the line audio system to compete with.

I say this wondering if I should spend the money to upgrade again, or instead spend the money of a TON more sound deadening material. I have some deadening already in, and what a difference it made! Bu its no where near as nice as some of the How To pics I have seen of door deadening! And possibly a new alternator.

as said a million times on here, install will make or break your setup. spend G's on equipment but don't spent TIME setting it right and just get prefab box, and don't deaden(among other things) and it'll not perform to its capabilities

So it sounds like I should keep the set-up I have now, and spend the cash on some Second Skin and maybe a alternator. I will be starting the fiberglass work soon, so hopefully I can find the best imaging, since I am not going to be confined to stock locations.

Well I have been in car audio since I was 15 years old, and now at age 31, I am getting more and more particular. My plan was to move the ES520's to the kick's, then put the EF8's in the doors, and SI 12 in the trunk. I have 4 US Amps amplifiers to run an active system. But then I thought I might want a 4" in the kicks instead for space reasons. But then that turned into changing my entire front stage. So, now I am back at maybe just sticking to what I already own, and spend some money on more Sound Deadening, and get the fiberglass work done. I just hate the idea of doing all the fiberglass work, to find out I am not happy with the sound lol!

i'd say if you were happy but now want to smooth out the edges of your system just playing around would get you there, but if you have the cash at hand maybe get new equipment AND tweak it as you would your current system would be best bet.

Well for the most part I am happy with what I have. I have just seen some tests with CDT and other speakers tested, and the CDT never wins. This makes me think I am missing out on something.
