shortest height..?

im looking at either a 15" Fi BL or 15" Re SX.

i have minimal space as for the height in my car.

i was looking at the overall diameter of both subs and the BL is 15.625" and the SX is 15.5" so not much difference.

So i was wondering was the the shortest height i can put this drivers in?

16.5" is the smallest Ill put a 15" sub on. You could probably get away with 16", but its just a preference of mine to add 1.5" to the height of the sub.

That's nice, but you run the risk of drilling right inbetween two planks of wood.

I'd just do overall diameter + 1.5"

Make sure that the overall diameter is covered by one plank, and not in between 3.

Cut out on most 15" subs is only 14"+, so he wouldn't have that problem. I've done them in 15 1/2" high with the outer edge of the sub right at the top/bottom of the box. I just glued some blocks of wood behind the cutout near the edges for added strength.

You could also do a wedge style with the face angled back to gain more room for the sub.

iirc , they have a 14.125" cutout. atleast my Q does. i recently slapped together a sealed box for it and made it only 16" high and didnt have a problem. as long as you predrill your holes youll be fine.
