it was built in 1871 and is in active use today and absolutely sucks. everybody going through the prison system will eventually end up in cell house 5 before being move to their permanent facility. the rest of it is for the sick inmates as the prison hospital is there. the place is just odd to be in. the walls of the yard are made from the rocks off the mountain. you can see numerous places where the guards have shot bullets into the yard to break up riots or stop an escape. i found it really erie.
